March 1 Opener

Just a little over a month to some good rainbow fishing. The guys I fish with started talking about where to go at the end of archery elk hunting in December. The last few years we have had a good time at Burke Lake. We may not all be lucky enough to get a limit of nice rainbows, but we always have a good time fishing the morning bite. After catching a few trout no matter what the weather was like(it can be down right cold on the March 1st opener), we pack up and head for Ellensburg,Wa. for a nice hot breakfast, usually breakfast, if we caught an early limit or we froze our butts off, a lot of times it can take a few hours for everyone to get their limits, all depends about how many of us have made the adventure,  Our get-together for the opener has gone from anywhere from 2 to 11 fishing partners for the day.

The WDFW’s Quincy Wildlife Area near Quincy Washington has many lakes that provide some great fishing opportunity.

If you enter the wildlife area from the north there are many lakes along the road, Quincy Lake, Dusty Lake (check the regs on this one), Evergreen Reservoir, and many walk-in lakes, you should expect a crowd especially this year seeing how opening day is on a Saturday.
