Thunder Lake

It is not much more than a swampy looking spot along the Wildcat Rd. FS-1306. But this little lake holds some nice Cutthroat trout and is a nice spot to sit and just relax(primitive camp spots are available). We stop and fish here when in the area just to see how big the trout have grown, hopefully every one will catch and release what they hook. Just about any small spinner will work, watch out for the snags there are plenty of them.

My last adventure here held a great treat. Two of my fishing partners and one of their daughters were as surprised as myself to see a small and very young elk calf feeding on the far shore. My buddies daughter decide to get a little closer look, maybe to close, she wanted a good picture which she got, before her dad told her to back away before momma showed up. It is never a good idea to get very close to young wildlife. We caught and released a few trout.memorial 2010 052

If you know the right pull off area on the way up the road, Lightning Lake is on your right side of road, it’s just a short couple hundred feet

off the road. It also holds some cutthroats.memorial 2010 058memorial 2010 062memorial 2010 057
